IPhone 3.0 Update Summer 2009?

As I understand it a major update is coming to the IPhone this summer. Rumors are that it will happen as early as June! It will include COPY/PASTE, MMS Messaging, landscape keyboards, etc.

I just bought an IPhone 3G in December and signed a 2 year contract with ATT. Will I have to buy an entirely new device this summer to get all the great updates or is the software just going to be updated on my current device? And if it is an entirely different device I have to get, how much will it cost an existing IPhone owner to upgrade?

Please help, so I can know what to expect! Thanks!

  1. Hode Says:

3.0 will be free for all iPhone owners and $10 for iPod touch owners, you wont have to buy a new phone or anything, the update will work on the current iPhones (iPhone 1st gen will have some features disables due to some lacking hardware).

You can already download and install the beta 5 by going to
You need to have it activated by them for it to work.

It runs great and I love the new features!
